The Office of the Dean of Students serves as a campus resource for students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members. This office works with many areas to help students excel in the four fundamental principles of the university strategic plan:
- to think critically and creatively
- to make local to global connections
- to communicate effectively
- to understand the principles of good citizenship
The following are areas addressed and often referred by this office:
- fostering positive interactions between faculty and students
- the physical and mental health of the students at Appalachian
- safety issues
- behavioral issues in the classroom and in the campus community
- information regarding resources both on and off campus
- clearinghouse for questions and concerns
